Oi Ching Chan is a London based conductor, recognised for her compelling presence and calm authority on the podium. Her performances have been praised for their clarity, rich sonority, and strong sense of character.

She is the Artistic Director of New London Harmonia and a participant in the Royal Philharmonic Society Conductors Programme, through which she works in close association with Royal Northern Sinfonia at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music. She was also selected for the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Ballet and Opera, where she took part in the Ballet Conducting Course.

Oi Ching has collaborated with orchestras internationally, including the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain, Sofia Philharmonic, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Northern Sinfonia. She has been mentored by distinguished conductors including Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Marin Alsop, Jac van Steen, and Colin Metters.

Her artistic development has been further enriched through assistantships with Ryan Bancroft and Jac van Steen at BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and Nil Venditti at Royal Northern Sinfonia. She has also participated in renowned conducting programmes including Dartington Music Summer School and the Académie du Domaine Forget de Charlevoix.

A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Oi Ching conducted the Hungarian premiere of Erlantz (2015) by Ramon Lazkano with the Danubia Orchestra as part of the Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation Conductors Programme. She has also led premieres with Sofia Philharmonic during the Sofia Symphonic Summit.

Alongside her professional conducting activities, Oi Ching is deeply committed to the development of young musicians. She is currently Music Director of the Bromley Youth Symphony Orchestra and has previously served as Resident Conductor of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Junior Conservatoire and Assistant Conductor of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Oi Ching holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Hong Kong Baptist University. She completed a Master of Performance with Distinction in Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying under David Jones. She has also studied with the renowned Finnish conductor Jorma Panula at the Panula Academy in Finland.

We are a mighty team of five who have worked the behind-the-scenes logistics for this orchestra to come to reality (also with the help of our amazing AD, Oi Ching).

Though we hail from various day jobs from music to tech, NLH has been a passion project for us this year and we are immensely proud of the collective effort from this team and all of our orchestra members to make it to this point.
